Research Scientist – Level 2
The Level 2 Research Scientist applies advanced scientific principles to support research, innovation, and early-stage technology development. This role requires strong analytical capabilities, hands-on research experience, and the ability to contribute to scientific studies that inform future products and capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and provide guidance on the application of scientific principles and concepts.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies, scientific theories, and industry trends through literature, academia, and technical forums.
  • Conduct laboratory research and execute scientific studies to support research objectives.
  • Plan, design, develop, and execute scientific experiments and research initiatives.
  • Perform feasibility studies to evaluate new concepts, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Apply scientific principles to support potential inventions and product development, often years ahead of formal product roadmaps.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams on research activities and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of intellectual property, including research findings and innovations.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Physical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or Physics from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the field.
    • A Master’s degree may substitute for 2 years of experience (6 years total required).
    • A PhD may substitute for 4 years of experience (4 years total required).
    • In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, an additional 4 years of experience may be substituted (12 years total required).
  • Experience conducting laboratory research and executing scientific studies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to support research design and development.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and contribute to multidisciplinary research efforts.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct reverse engineering of software and firmware to understand functionality and identify vulnerabilities
  • Analyze compiled code, binary artifacts, and system behavior to uncover malicious or exploitable conditions

In this role, you will partner closely with stakeholders, product owners, and engineering teams to translate mission and business needs into clear, actionable requirements. You will play a critical role in ensuring solutions are well-defined, delivered effectively, and accepted with confidence, supporting either an Integration-focused or UI-focused Agile workstream.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and decompose mission and business requirements into clear, well-defined functional and technical specifications aligned with program objectives
  • Gather, analyze, and document requirements through stakeholder interviews, workshops, and direct process observation
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive Agile artifacts including epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, process flows, and system requirements documentation
  • Maintain end-to-end requirements traceability throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment from concept through delivery and acceptance
  • Conduct current-state and future-state analysis, identifying gaps and recommending process, system, and workflow improvements

Requirements:

  • Experience translating mission and business needs into epics, features, and well-defined user stories with acceptance criteria in an Agile environment

  • Demonstrated expertise in AWS environments supporting multiple classification domains (e.g., IL5 to IL6+)
  • Proficiency with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and EBS
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible
  • Proficiency managing and securing Linux and Windows Server systems in production environments
  • Hands-on scripting experience using Python and Bash for cloud automation
  • Strong understanding of cloud security best practices and implementation of advanced security controls
  • Experience supporting operational environments, managing ticket queues, and leveraging knowledge bases for issue resolution
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical topics to diverse audiences
  • Active CompTIA Security+ or equivalent 8140/8570 certification (valid for at least one year)
  • Relevant AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect Associate/Professional or SysOps Administrator) preferred

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic data engineering team in Tysons Corner, VA. In this role, you will design, build, and operationalize robust and scalable data pipelines to enable secure data brokering and exchange across diverse producers and consumers. You will work hands-on with AWS cloud environments, automation tools, and modern data frameworks to drive reliability, performance, and innovation across distributed data ecosystems.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, cloud-based data pipelines and supporting infrastructure
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to broker and exchange data through APIs, S3, and other secure interfaces
  • Operationalize data pipelines leveraging Python-native and AWS-native tools for ingestion, transformation, and delivery
  • Provide day-to-day operational support, including Tier 2/3 troubleshooting and incident response for production data pipelines
  • Automate deployment and monitoring processes using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible
  • Implement data security and compliance controls aligned with RMF principles across multiple classification domains
  • Participate in Agile development activities and contribute to continuous improvement of data engineering workflows
  • Stay informed on emerging data engineering technologies and best practices to drive innovation within the team

Requirements: 
  • US citizenship with an active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph required
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, data pipeline development, or cloud data systems
  • Proficiency in designing and deploying data pipelines leveraging AWS services across multiple classification domains (e.g., IL5 to IL6+)
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible
  • Understanding of RMF security principles and experience implementing security controls for cloud data systems
  • Strong programming and scripting skills in Go, Python, and Bash
  • Experience with data pipeline tools and platforms such as NiFi, Hadoop, HDFS, Kafka, or Cloudera Data Platform
  • Proficiency with Linux environments and troubleshooting distributed data systems
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Desired Experience:
  • Experience working with data lake and big data technologies such as Spark, Accumulo, or Elasticsearch
  • Experience automating data delivery workflows and monitoring systems for high availability
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and collaboration tools like Jira and Confluence
  • Background in performance optimization and tuning of large-scale data pipelines

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing scalable data pipelines and infrastructure, with a focus on AWS cloud services. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data-driven applications and analytics, ensuring efficient data flow and accessibility. The ideal candidate will thrive in an Agile project management setting and possess a strong background in data management and processing. The position is in Herndon, VA.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Designing, developing, and managing database systems, particularly focusing on AWS RDS for PostgreSQL and SQL databases
  • Managing data structures and load routines to support application development and support application users
  • Working with reporting tools like Power BI
  • Developing and interfacing with Application Program Interfaces (APIs), supporting application development teams, and leveraging AWS environments for database and application support
  • The ideal candidate will thrive in an Agile project management setting and possess a strong background in data management and processing
 
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated database experience preferably with PostgreSQL and SQL databases
  • Proficiency in working with views, triggers, and stored procedures
  • Strong knowledge of SQL scripting, database indexing, and optimization techniques
  • Experience in developing and interfacing with APIs
  • Experience in developing, creating, and modifying data structures and load routines for business use
  • Expertise in working with relational data, including cleansing, transforming, and processing structured data
  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments
  • Experience working within an Agile project management framework
  • Proven experience collaborating with diverse teams, including client staff, IT customers, and technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • US Citizenship and an active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance required
 
Desired Experience:
  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying AI and Generative AI models and algorithms
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and solve business challenges using AI technologies
